FAQs

  • Your submission should include:-

    • A covering letter. Tell us about your novel (including total word count), where it sits in the market, and about yourself and your writing ambitions.

    • A brief synopsis. We prefer a single page synopsis – outline the whole story, no cliffhangers.

    • A sample of your writing. The first three chapters or about 10,000 words, typed (size 12 is ideal) and double spaced.

Please make sure that you have a full manuscript ready before submitting your sample.

Once you have your work and you have chosen your agent please look at their individual page in case they want the work submitted any differently. ie/ some agents like to have attached word documents.

This is very important, any submission that doesn’t follow the guidelines won’t be considered.

  • Please only submit your work to one of our team, please make sure you do your research in finding who will be the best agent for you based on their manuscript requests.

At DHH Literary Agency we all have individual taste and areas of expertise – take your time to read our profiles and choose the best agent for your work.

  • We will endeavour to respond to all submissions within 8-16 weeks of receipt but this timescale isn’t always possible. If you haven’t heard from us within 16 weeks you can assume your manuscript is no longer under consideration.

If we request the full manuscript to read we aim to respond within 30 days.

  • We only accept submissions electronically. Submissions posted to the office will not be considered for representation and the material will be discarded.

  • We aim to respond to every single submission however should you not receive a reply within 8-16 weeks then do feel free to drop us an email in case it has slipped through the cracks.

If we are passionate about your work then we will ask for the full manuscript and go from there.

If your work is not called in then a standard email will be sent, we don’t give feedback. This allows more time for reading and consideration of submissions. It does not mean your work is unpublishable, just that it’s not right for us and you should keep trying other agents.

  • If you want to check on the status of a submission a polite email to the address you submitted to is the best way.

    Please don't call the office.

  • No; nor would any reputable & professional agency.

  • Please see our individual pages, get to know our agents before submitting your work.

  • If we receive a submission that we think another agent within our team might enjoy then we will pass it to that person. We work very closely together however we couldn’t guarantee representation.
