Matt Johnson lives and works in Raglan, Wales. He served for 25 years as an army officer and Metropolitan Police officer, retiring as an Inspector in 1999. He began writing, quite by chance, as a result of therapy after being diagnosed with PTSD.
 
Originally a self-published work, his debut novel Wicked Game – a spy/crime thriller - was published by Orenda Books in March 2016. The sequel Deadly Game, was published March 2017 and the final part of the trilogy, End Game, in 2018. In 2016, Wicked Game was long-listed for a Crime Writers Association John Creasey Dagger.

No Ordinary Day, Matt's first non-fiction, reveals the incredible political scandal behind the 1984 murder of WPC Yvonne Fletcher outside the Libyan Embassy in London. In 2024, No Ordinary Day was shortlisted for the prestigious CWA ALCS Gold Dagger award, also winning Book of the Year and Readers' Choice Awards at the CrimeCon True Crime Awards. No Ordinary Day is also is shortlisted in the 2024 Capital Crime Fingerprint awards
