Melody Sachs

Agent: Broo Doherty

Melody Sachs was born in Newcastle. As a child, she developed a love of drama and dance and appeared regularly in pantomime at the Theatre Royal.

At the age of 18, Melody moved to London where she spent a year in West End cabaret and a further year in provincial repertory theatres.

In 1960, she married the actor and writer, Andrew Sachs, and they have three children, John, William and Kate. As a young woman, Melody began to write short stories and sketches and in her thirties her first radio play was accepted for production by the BBC.

Melody went on to study antique textiles and design and opened her first shop in the eighties in Hampstead, specialising in wedding gowns.  She moved on to other London outlets throughout the 1980s and her creations were frequently featured in such magazines as Tatler, Brides and Wedding magazine. She went on to design for celebrities, including Boy George for his Japanese tour, and Barbara Kelly for the entire series of What’s My Line. One of her most memorable designs was the gown she created for Lady Glenconner to attend a ball at Buckingham Palace in honour of the King of Spain.

Melody eventually gave up her career in the fashion industry to concentrate on her first love, writing. The Girl From the Tyne was her first novel and was published by Bonnier in April 2017. Sadly, Melody passed away in September 2017, joining her beloved husband Andrew, who died in 2016.
