Baskerville snaps up two further books in Natalie Marlow’s historical crime series

Baskerville has snapped up two further books in Natalie Marlow’s historical crime series.

Publishing director Jade Chandler acquired world rights from Abi Fellows, and The Red Hollow—the second book in the series—will be published at the end of March 2024. The third instalment in the series will be published in spring 2025, and will be supported by an extensive marketing and publicity campaign, including events around the country.

The books continue Marlow’s William Garrett detective series, which started with Needless Alley (Baskerville). The synopsis for the second book says: "Set in 1934, private detective Garrett and his new assistant Phyll Hall are called in to uncover the identity of an intruder at a local sanatorium. But when a terrible storm breaks out they become trapped in a world of madness, the occult and grisly murder. A world where William must use all his strength to differentiate between the real-life monster haunting Red Hollow Hall and the monsters of the mind."

The author, who was chosen by Val McDermid to appear on the New Blood panel for debut writers at the Theakston Old Peculier Crime Festival in Harrogate, said: "I’m delighted to continue working with Jade, and thrilled that my next novel— one which is very close to my heart—will be published by Baskerville."

Chandler added: "The combination of the classic PI and a deeply atmospheric 1930s setting makes for the ideal historical crime series. Natalie is a star writer on our Baskerville list, and we hope to continue the partnership for many years to come."
