DHH News Roundup 2nd - 8th October 2023

Tom Hindle

The forthcoming book from crime mystery master Tom HindleMurder on Lake Garda, has been given a fantastic endorsement from We Begin at the End author, Chris Whitaker:

"A clever, classy and captivating murder mystery that keeps you guessing through each devilish twist."

The book will be published by PRH Century in February 2024.

Eve Smith

Eve Smith appeared on an episode of the CrimeTime podcast, which you can catch up on here

Additionally, her latest book, One, was reviewed in Dawn:

"A page-turner of a dystopian novel about a future one-party United Kingdom that harshly enforces a one-child policy is as much about what it means to be human ... Speculative thrillers are a popular breed of creative writing but Eve Smith’s One takes the genre to a new level."

M. W. Craven

We were delighted to see M. W. Craven's The Botanist given a generous nod by Steph McGovern in last weekend's issue of Waitrose magazine.

Helga Jensen

A very warm welcome to new client, Helga Jensen, who joined David Headley's list last week.

Helga is the author of three gloriously uplifting women's fiction novels, with the fourth, My Heart Is In Venice, due for publication in January 2024.

A very happy publication day to Stephen Moss, who last week saw the hardback and eBook release of his new bird biography book, The Owl!

Uncover the secret life of owls through this beautiful guide to these secretive and charismatic birds.

Owls are among the most mysterious birds in the world. Their hauntingly beautiful calls and mostly nocturnal habits have long captured our collective imagination, inspiring more superstitions, folktales and myths than any other group of birds. Seven species of owl - the tawny, little, barn, long-eared, short-eared, snowy and eagle owl - can be found in the British Isles (out of sixteen different kinds across Europe). They have lived alongside people for thousands of years, yet we still know so little about their day-to-day lives.

Discover their fascinating lives, from the moment they first hatch, to the way they hunt their prey and how they raise the next generation. Explore the rich folklore they've inspired around the world and learn how, with a bit of luck, you can catch a glimpse of them yourself.

With beautiful illustrations throughout, and expert birdwatching tips, this eye-opening biography reveals the hidden secrets of one of the world's most famous and beloved birds.

Victoria Selman

Congratulations to Victoria Selman, whose recent book All the Little Liars, received a lovely review from The Irish Times within the last week:

"All the Little Liars is a terrifying tragedy of innocence brutally abused."

The cover for M. W. Craven's highly-anticipated next Washington Poe book, The Mercy Chair, has been revealed! It is due for publication in June 2024 and is available for preorder now...

Are you sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin . . .

Washington Poe has a story to tell.

And he needs you to listen.

You'll hear how it started with the robber birds. Crows. Dozens of them. Enough for a murder . . .

He'll tell you about a man who was tied to a tree and stoned to death, a man who had tattooed himself with a code so obscure, even the gifted analyst Tilly Bradshaw struggled to break it. He'll tell you how the man's murder was connected to a tragedy that happened fifteen years earlier when a young girl massacred her entire family.

And finally, he'll tell you about the mercy chair. And why people would rather kill themselves than talk about it . . .
Poe hopes you've been paying attention. Because in this story, nothing is as it seems . . .

Frances White

Frances White had a fantastic feature in an issue of last week's The Bookseller, talking about her upcoming debut novel, Voyage of the Damned (January 2024, Michael Joseph).

Catch up here.

Eleni Kyriacou

Finally, we were totally thrilled to hear that Eleni Kyriacou's The Unspeakable Acts of Zina Pavlou is a pick for the forthcoming series of BBC2's Between the Covers.

The book, which was sold to Head of Zeus by Abi Fellows which she was at The Good Literary Agency, will be published in April 2024.

We cannot wait to see this one on our screens!
